I am a MSc student in the ACS Lab investigating the potential impacts of industrial logging on wildlife across Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk) territory on the Central Coast of BC. In partnership with the Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department (HIRMD), our team has deployed camera traps in watersheds across the territory to examine how forest seral stage may influence where wildlife occur on the landscape and how species interact with each other. This work aims to provide evidence-based solutions to inform forestry policy and wildlife management.
I hold a BSc from the University of British Columbia in Natural Resources Conservation. I have past experience in wildlife research, ranging from aquatic invertebrates to juvenile salmon to large mammals, and have been privileged to work with the Wildlife Coexistence Lab at UBC and the Fraser River Estuary Salmon Habitat Restoration Project (Raincoast Conservation Foundation & Ducks Unlimited Canada). I am thrilled to continue in this kind of work alongside my colleagues in the ACS Lab.
This research is made possible through the support of Raincoast Conservation Foundation, Haíɫzaqv Nation, and the University of Victoria, Department of Geography. I am very grateful to my coworkers in the lab, and all the Bella Bella community members who support our work together and enrich our learning.
