As the lab manager for the Applied Conservation Science Lab, I support graduate students in their work and coordinate daily operations. My role ranges from coordinating fieldwork logistics to training volunteers to maintaining equipment and datasets. I am also involved in continuing work on our long-term wildlife projects.
I was lucky to spend much of my childhood and early career living and working in the Broughton Archipelago off Northern Vancouver Island, which heavily influenced my dedication to coastal ecosystems and communities. Some of my early career experiences include monitoring salmon populations across watersheds in the mainland inlets and working as a marine wildlife guide and vessel operator out of Telegraph Cove. I first joined the ACS Lab as a volunteer during my undergraduate degree at UVic, and over the past four years, I have supported data collection and processing for graduate students and long-term research projects in collaboration with Raincoast Conservation Foundation. For the past two years, I have worked as a wildlife technician with the ACS Lab in Kwiakah and Heiltsuk territories, working alongside MSc and PhD students. I am excited to bring this experience into my role as lab manager and continue supporting the lab’s collaborative conservation research.
